U990JR4 × Joe Fresh Goods ‘Intro’
Joe Freshgoods does two things exceedingly well: design New Balance sneakers and touch on cultural moments from his Chicago community and the wider Black experience. Inspired by Hype Williams’ 1998 film Belly, he created a three pack of Made in USA 990v4’s.
This white rendition draws from the film’s opening scenes, giving it the nickname ‘Intro’ thanks to the mostly-white decor in Tommy’s house (played by DMX). The shoe’s set on a base of black mesh with white suede and patent leather to represent the interior of Tommy’s pad with a ‘1998’ hit on the heels in the same typeface off the film’s poster.
