Air Max Plus – Team Red/Sail
With the Air Max Plus ‘Tiempo’ Nike combines two cult-classic pieces of footwear into a melding of different worlds. This unique design combines the classic TN sneaker with one of history’s most famed football boots, the Nike Tiempo.
Bursting onto the football scene during the 1994 World Cup held in the USA. The Tiempo featured on almost half of the players on the field during the final, which was eventually won by Brazil. The boot’s classic black and white colourway combined with fold-over tongue gave them a strikingly simple look which has stood the test of time.
To inject Tiempo DNA into the Air Max Plus, Nike created the uppers from smooth leather and embroidered the famous ‘stripes’ across the hide much like the typical toebox quilting on a football boot. It’s hard not to notice the other touch—a fold-over shroud which is attached to the laces, allowing the less bold to remove it if they wish.
